Tumblr is a blogging platform that seems to have learned a lot from the mistakes of others.

If you look at the Tumblr of its quirky founder and creator David Karp, you'll notice that it's squeaky clean and includes mostly pictures.

Tumblr realizes that people want a simple, clean, and easy way to post anything they find inspiring or worth sharing, whether it's a picture, song, quote, opinion, or video clip. Tumblr is open, allowing you to share posts back and forth between popular apps like Facebook, Twitter,Instagram and even other blogging platforms.

It works on every mobile operating system (with flying colors, at that), and even allows you to call a phone number to put up a Tumblr post of whatever you say into your phone while you're on the line.

It's flexible, and it just might be the best blogging platform ever made. Tumblr has the world's biggest blogging platform scrambling for inspiration.

Celebrities have Tumblrs, online memes have Tumblrs, and bizarre phenomenons of all kinds have Tumblrs.

Head over to Tumblr to get started. Enter in your email, a new password, and a URL for your new blog

Once you're in the next screen, click Themes up top to pick a theme for your blog. Some themes are more customizable than others (add Twitter feed or background picture, etc.), and some cost money (the ones at the top). Click one to see a preview of how it would look.

Click the "Services" button to link your Tumblr to other social networks you use. Other services like Instagram require you to authorize from within their apps. If you have an old blog or RSS feed, Tumblr happily pulls in entries and converts them to posts. Very convenient.

Once you've picked something, click "Save And Close" at the top right of your screen.

This brings you to your dashboard. Enter in your email address to find people you know using Tumblr, or just click the "x" in the top right of the window to skip this step.

Here's your dashboard view. You'll see the posts of people you follow, as well as statistics to the right and new post options near the top.
